I've already rated this but wanted to follow up and say that this soup also freezes really well. We just enjoyed some last night that I made back in December. I like to fry my own tortilla strips to serve with it, along with lime juice, shredded cheese, cilantro, and green onion.

I cooked it with one modification. I used dried ancho chiles, reconstituted with hot water and diced three of them and replaced the ancho chili powder. I didn't find it necessary to add the water at the end. It ended up fairly thick, but still with a runny texture.
I knew I'd like it, probably a lot, but wasn't quite as certain about my two younger kids, who are more picky than most. I was right about me, as I loved it and was pleasantly surprised that the kids really liked it and one went back for seconds.

I’m very picky about Mexican food and took a chance and made this. All I can say is that it’s amazing. The spices are just the right blend and the mas harina gives it that traditional Mexican taste. I live by myself and just made my second batch. I freeze it so I always have some anytime I want. This would be an awesome dish to take to a get together. There won’t be anything left!

This soup is great!! I have made alot of Mexican soups over the years and this one is one of the best- the masa was something I hadn't tried before and it works great to thicken and give it more flavor- new family favorite!

Unfortunately I don't recommend it. It won't thicken the soup the same as the masa harina will and the flavor is different too.
