Easy Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites! A sweet, salty, crisp and chocolatey treat made with pretzels, sweetened peanut butter filling, plus a semi-sweet chocolate and white chocolate finish.
Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels
These are a family favorite treat and they are so fun and easy to make! Plus they only require a handful of ingredients.
They are perfect for celebrations and holiday parties (just switch out the color of sprinkles to match the event). And they also make a great on the go-snack or pack along lunch treat.
And their flavor is 100% irresistible! That nutty peanut butter, salty pretzel, rich and sweet chocolate combo was meant to be together.
Plus the blend of textures is completely satisfying too. Crisp pretzel, creamy peanut butter filling, soft smooth chocolate and a lightly crunchy sprinkle finish.
Some much to love about such a tiny tempting little bite size treat! You’ll be making these over and over again!
Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites Ingredients
- Creamy peanut butter: Don’t use natural peanut butter as it’s far too runny for this use.
- Powdered sugar: As always sift it first if you find it’s clumped. Don’t use granulated sugar or filling will be gritty and overly sweet.
- Peanut butter powder: This is optional but highly recommended for more peanut butter flavor.
- Unsalted butter: I recommend only using unsalted butter here or you may find the treats to be too salty since the pretzels and peanut butter both already have salt.
- Snap pretzels: I’ve also made these with the regular shaped pretzel twists (still just using the same amounts).
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: Use a good quality chocolate chip so it melts smoothly and isn’t overly thick.
- Vegetable oil: This is used to help with the consistency of the chocolate, making it better for dipping.
- White chocolate: I’ve tried using white chocolate chips but they melt fairly thick and aren’t ideal for dipping. I recommend white chocolate bars for better results.
- Sprinkles: These are completely optional, just a fun addition.
How to Make Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels
- To a large mixing bowl add peanut butter, powdered sugar, peanut butter powder and butter.
- Blend mixture on low to start bring together then increase to medium and blend until combined. If needed you can thin it with a little more peanut butter or thicken with powdered sugar, it should feel like a pretty stiff cookie dough and shouldn’t be runny or sticky.
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Scoop out 1 even teaspoon at a time and roll into balls. This process will go faster if you’ve got someone to help, one person scoops the other person rolls.
- Place peanut butter ball over 1 pretzel then smash a second pretzel over the top. Place them on the baking sheet.
- Refrigerate until filling is fairly firm, about 30 to 60 minutes.
How to Dip Peanut Butter Pretzels in Chocolate
- Place chocolate chips in a medium microwave safe bowl along with the vegetable oil. Heat in microwave on 50% power in 30 second intervals. Stir well between each until chocolate is melted. Note that the last time heating you may only need 15 seconds or so, careful not to overheat it or it can seize.
- Remove one baking sheet of the peanut butter stuffed pretzels from fridge. Dip the pretzels halfway in the chocolate then remove and shake and scrape excess chocolate underneath off along the side of the bowl.
- Sprinkle with sprinkles if using.
- Melt white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave on 50% power in 30 second intervals stirring well between each until melted and smooth.
- Repeat dipping process with white chocolate and cover with sprinkles.
- Transfer to fridge to set for about 15 minutes.
How to Store
- Store peanut butter pretzels in an airtight container. They can be stacked.
- Keep them in the fridge. They are actually perfectly delicious cold straight from the fridge, but if preferred you can bring to room temp just before serving.
- They’ll keep about 2 weeks in the fridge.
- You can also freeze them for up to 3 months.
Helpful Tips
- Work as a team: To make this process go faster it’s super helpful to have someone else helping. Kids will love to help with this project.
- Adjust filling as needed: The consistency of the filling should be like a stiff cookie dough. Not runny or sticky and not crumbly. You should be able to roll it easily and it will hold together. So if needed add more peanut butter if it’s too thick, or more powdered sugar if it’s too thin.
- Keep the pretzels in the fridge: This way the chocolate doesn’t soften (since it’s not tempered) and the filling stays firm in place.
- Be careful not to overheat the chocolate: If overheated chocolate has a tendency to seize. Heat on half power in the microwave in intervals or in a double broiler over the stovetop. Stir it well during cooking.
- Add sprinkles shortly after dipping: If you want to use sprinkles add them shortly after dipping before the chocolate starts to set or they won’t stick.

Notes
- *I found I liked these quite a bit more with the addition of peanut butter powder for a more pronounced peanut butter flavor. If you don't have it you can just add in another 1/2 cup powdered sugar just note they'll be sweeter and have a bit less peanut butter flavor.
- Store peanut butter pretzel bites in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
